Back to being a real fan in Winnipeg
Live music! Live sports! Let’s live it up and spread some real cheer!
Live music! Live sports! Let’s live it up and spread some real cheer!
As summer cools off, Winnipeg’s sports and entertainment scenes only continue to heat up.
After nearly two years removed from performing for live audiences, so many of the city’s best are now welcoming fully vaccinated fans back into the fold, be it for a ball game, a performance or a massive touring show at the newly renamed Canada Life Centre.
Cheer on the home team
On the sports front, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are continuing to defend their Grey Cup at Investors Group Field (IGF) to huge crowds that are thirsty for CFL action (and perhaps some local beer too). September brings the Rough Riders (boo!) on Sept 11, while October sees the Blue and Gold host Edmonton on the first, followed by the Lions on the 23rd and Montreal on Nov 6.
Valour FC too calls IG Field home, with plenty of home games throughout September and October as they compete in the Canadian Premier League.
The Winnipeg Jets will look to improve on their second-round playoff loss (after eliminating the much-fancied Oilers) to the eventual finalist Canadiens this autumn. The home season starts in October against Anaheim (21) and Nashville (23). Considering home openers are always celebratory, this game against the Ducks on the 21st should be one for the ages, right up there with the first return game of the NHL in Winnipeg back in 2011 after a 15-year hiatus. November brings nine home games to Canada Life Centre, ensuring plenty of options to get back into the best stands in hockey.
More hockey comes courtesy of the Manitoba Moose—the Jets AHL affiliate who also call Canada Life Centre home and the Winnipeg Ice—our WHL team that plays at Wayne Fleming Arena.
Live music
On top of all that live hockey, Canada Life Centre will once again be welcoming huge touring acts to play for real crowds this fall. It all starts with a 90s nostalgia show “Electric Circus” on Sept 21 featuring Aqua, Vengaboys and Eiffel 65, followed by country music mega star Eric Church on Oct 2. Plus, Stars on Ice returns Oct 20.
At The Burt, just a few notable shows this fall include Sam Roberts (Nov 13), Passenger (Nov 5), and Buckcherry (Oct 15), while The Park Theatre has a number of shows on this autumn too, including Joel Plaskett and Mo Kenny (two shows, Sept 20-21). Plus, Assiniboine Park’s Lyric Theatre has plenty of FREE shows lined up throughout September too.
